My company has completed the development of a Windows CE 6.0 based device.
For data exchange with a host PC we use the Windows Mobile Device
Center/Active Sync.

Usually ActiveSync automatically installs the USB serial host driver. This
is working as long as we use the USB VID/PID combination of Microsoft
(045E/00CE.) for prototype devices. Microsoft demands that for production
this has to be changed to my company's VID/PID. Now the device is no longer
recognized by ActiveSync as it is not present in the Wceusbsh.inf file.

The MSDN help for Windows CE 5.0 suggests to extend Wceusbsh.inf. This
recommendation is no longer present in the Windows CE 6.0 help. Apart from
the fact that I dislike the idea to modify existing INF files on a customer
PC current WMDC/Active Sync installations use signed drivers and we would
come down with an INF which doesn't match it's catalog file.

So I wonder what is the recommended way to get ActiveSync support for
devices not listed in Wceusbsh.inf ?

Best regards,

Oliver

Instead of modifying the standard Wceusbsh.inf file you can create your own
(a copy of the former) which lists only your USB device/vendor. If the
system catalofg file for Wceusbsh.sys (Wceusbsh.inf has no CatalogFile entry
in the Version Section) does not take in account the .inf file you're done.
