Specs leaked on Samsung’s folding ultra-mobile PC

Specs from a Korean user-manual recently surfaced on Samsung's own website for …

Information on one of Samsung's latest ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) offerings was recently leaked around the net. Apparently the manual, which is in Korean, for the Samsung SPH-P9200 was discovered on Samsung's download page with detailed specs on the unit.

The SPH-P9200 features a VIA C7-M processor, according to UMPC Portal, and although there's no information on the specific clock speed, the C7-M family ranges from 1.0GHz processors up to 2GHz. The unit also has 512MB of RAM, and a 30GB hard drive. This is a move away from the seemingly more common flash-storage that UMPCs like the Asus Eee PC offer. Personally, I think for these units to be really, "ultra-portable," flash storage is the way to go since they're more rugged and consume less power.

The SPH-P9200 will come preloaded with Windows XP Home edition; and has a 2-2.5 hour battery life with the option of an extended battery which doubles the life up to 5 hours. Judging by the picture, the 1.3MP camera listed in the stats is embedded into the right panel of the 5" 800x480 resolution display.

Other features include 2 USB ports, an Ethernet plug, VGA port, and SIM card slot, as well as WiFi, Wibro, and HSDPA connectivity. The specs also appear to list an "optical joystick," for mouse-less navigation (there doesn't appear to be a touchpad).

Has anyone ever used a folding keyboard? Personally, the idea of one is turning me off a bit, as I'd much rather prefer a keyboard embedded laptop-style into a UMPC. On the other hand, it also appears that Samsung's "MyPen" software is included, which may hint that the unit features a touch-screen.

There's no word on pricing or a release date yet, but we'll keep you updated as more news hits the circuit.
