Roe Ethridge ranks alongside Christopher Williams and Philipp-Lorca DiCorcia as one of the most interesting representatives of new American art photography. In his work, Ethridge combines editorial commissions with personal photographs of his direct experience of the world, ignoring the conceits that divide photography into fine art and commercial work. With this democratic attitude, Ethridge is interested in capturing the vivid and intimate details of his shifting locales within photography’s classic genres of portrait, landscape, and still life.

Among numerous gallery solo exhibitions, Roe Ethridge has had several individual shows at institutions such as Le Consortium in Dijon and Museum M, Leuven. His work has been shown extensively at venues around the world, including MoMA, New York; MoMA/PS1, New York; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and ICA, Boston. He also participated at the Lyon Biennial in 2013 and The Whitney Biennial in 2008. His work is represented in many important public collections such as MoMA, New York; ICA, Boston; MOCA, Los Angeles; and the Tate Collection, London.
