Virtualization Technology shown as enabled in Bios but disabled in Processor Identification Utility

Laptop: Acer Nitro AN515-51

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 Mhz, 4 Nuclei, 8 Logic Processors.

OS: Windows 10 64bits

State: Virtualization technology is not detected by Intel's utility.

I came across this issue after a few attempts of virtualizing (Virtual Box) Ubuntu 18.04. It seemed to be working just fine, but now it keeps showing this error message:

As mentioned, Intel's virtualization tech is shown as enabled in Bios.

Just to confirm the Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor does support Virtualization, both (VT-x) and (VT-d) as you can confirm in the following link:

There are some reports that state, as you mentioned, that the Virtualization feature is enabled in the BIOS but the Intel® Processor Identification Utility shows is deisabled, that could be because of the version of the tool installed, please updated it to 6.4.0603:

Keep in mind that the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) creates a lot of customizations on their laptop, they can enabled/diabled features and functions of the device.

This problem could be related to the chipset, the BIOS version the drivers or even the Operating System.

I looked in Acer's web site for the proper drivers for your system, please get in contact directly with Acer to gather the instruction to update the BIOS to the latest version, 1.22 and install Chipset driver version 10.1.1.38:

Dear Alberto,

I have considered your recommendations, thank you.

I have installed the latest release of the utility and it shows the virtualization feature disabled.

I have Windows Home edition here, maybe this is why it's not working then?

Yes, you are correct, since you already install the latest version of the tool, the Operating System could be the reason why the Intel® Processor Identification Utility is showing the Virtualization feature as disabled. 

But, before trying to reinstall it we recommend to get in contact directly with Acer in order to access the BIOS and confirm that the feature is enabled in there and also to install the latest BIOS version and the latest Chipset driver version as well.:

If you are going to try to re-install Windows*, please back up any important information you might have on your system since it will get deleted during this process.
