Orostachys 'Erubescens' is a monocarpic perennial herb that forms tight rosettes of leaves with spiny tips. The leaves have a russet color that transforms to a bronzy-purple in the fall. In late summer, the plant produces unique, pagoda-shaped flower spikes. Once a rosette flowers, it dies, but younger rosettes are left to support the plant. The rosette is dimorphic, resembling a sunflower head with a compact dome of spiral leaves during its resting phase, surrounded by upright leaves. When mature, the plant produces a conical flower stalk. The leaves are linear-elliptic, with a cartilaginous bristly tip and are 3-30 mm in length and 4-6 mm wide. They are fleshy and green with a russet hue that turns to a deeper red in the autumn.
