- In both iterations, the "One Great" is used.
- The main difference is that in 日本語, the "One Great" is first divided, and then those divisions are distinguished further.
- 分かたれ (wa・ka・ta・re) can be interpreted as "the distinction between right and wrong."
So just condensing all this information into the term "fractures,"
removes the knowledge of this important series of events.
It makes it seem that any division is wrong, in so much, as even being able to tell the difference between right and wrong... good and evil... should not be possible.
That all should remain ignorant. - Following this, 心を持った (kokoro・wo・motta), is the will... the capability to act within reality; which gets compressed to "souls."
- The main difference is that in 日本語, the "One Great" is first divided, and then those divisions are distinguished further.
The One Great - An Investigation
and the entire encompassing universe,
starts with a "One Great," makes sense.
It is reminiscent to our own Big Bang event.
the credibility of the source of this information
is what is suspect.
Since an effective lie, is in reality, a half-truth.
Think of all the instances that Patches has told you:
"Hey! There's treasure over there, go look!"
And indeed, there is treasure.
But it usually comes with a caveat of falling into Patches' trap.
Patches
The Untethered
anguish, despair, curses, sins, and hardships,
is that of the Two Fingers, and the Greater Will,
is what seems suspicious.
This does not mean that the Greater Will,
and in turn, the Two Fingers are blameless;
but to place all the responsibility on them is excessive.
It is more likely that both,
Chaos and the Greater Will,
are the result of the Division of the One Great;
not the initiators.
To further see how skeptical one should be with the words of the Three Fingers, let's look at their servant... and envoy... Shabriri.

There is, however, some nuance within the 日本語 version of the last stanza.
• 別れ = division, difference, parting.
Which could also include the "threads" of two people's life's journey, being entwined, for a time... then cut; separated.
Which means, no longer being able to tell the differences between each other... at all.
• 全て = everything
• 侵し = to invade, raid, violate, assault
• All this combined gives:
Not, just social status, but everything.
• 沌 = chaos, uncertainty
• Combined: "Total, and complete, chaos"
Shabriri's Half-Truths
First, and foremost, the sheer fact that Shabriri even knows of Melina's existence should give one pause.
Not even Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing, is aware of her existence.
Though, it could very well be
a guess on Shabriri's part.
As any Tarnished heading into the mountains
would most likely mean they have a maiden...
physically standing next to them.
However, Melina does not physically stand next to us.
Fillet worn by maidens who serve the Two Fingers.
The maidens live to serve a chosen Tarnished,
sharing their guidance
and the wisdom of the Two Fingers.
The guidance of grace would ensure
that the pair be brought together.
Or at least, such was the promise long ago.
What's more, Shabriri knows what she looks like; which should immediately cause one to be suspicious.
He calls her a 哀れな小娘「あわれな・こ・むすめ」, a pitiable, or pitiful, adolescent girl.
She could indeed by considered pitiable as she is:
• having only a "spirit body,"
• is unable to travel by herself,
• and has forgotten... or rather lost... her life's purpose.
What's more, she does have the appearance of a young woman;
however, she is far from "adolescent."

The discrepancies between the official English
and 日本語 versions are based upon two points:
1) In 日本語, the time scale... in this instance... is understood based on context.
Largely because to forget one's own purpose requires
for that important conversation to have been given in the distant past
2) When the kana で (de) is used after a location,
such as 黄金樹で, it does not mean "inside;" only "at."
If I wanted to say "inside the Erdtree," it would be 黄金樹の中で;
where 中 (naka) means "inside" or "middle"
It's that first point that helps determine how long Melina has lived.
But it is only one piece of the puzzle to her age.
(Indeed, it's a bit of a taboo, seeking out a woman's exact age;
but we don't need to be that accurate... just... close enough.)

I think it would be good to rephrase my previous comment.
Elden Ring is based on a culmination of everything
we've done with the Dark Souls series
and with our games thus far.
That's the best way to look at it.
So it's not necessarily
about what we couldn't do then
that we could do now,
it's more about what Elden Ring
has allowed us to do
thanks to the experience of developing those games.
So in that sense,
it couldn't have come first.
But there's a lot of different things with each of these games,
and Elden Ring represents
the culmination of all of that knowledge
and experience coming together.
And that creates a brand-new whole that wouldn't have been possible before.

There are three major points:
• The term used for "mockery of life" is:
模倣する 「もほう・する」(mohou・suru) = "to imitate"
模 = "imitate, copy, mock"
倣 = "imitate, copy"
Only one of the characters even remotely references "mockery";
in all likelihood, it should only be "imitate"... "a copy of life"
• The term used for "reborn":
再誕 「さいたん」(sai・tan) = "resurrect, resuscitate"
Specifically, a company, school, an organization; not actual living, breathing, life.
It's almost like the tears are being resuscitated to keep an ideology "alive."
• Contextually, this could be seen as a sarcastic statement.
"Oh look, it's trying be like life! Ma~ybe one day it could even be a Lord! lol!"
However, sarcasm is extremely rare in From Software games.
What's more, the beginning of the item description specifically calls these Silver Drops actual living creatures.
That are constantly being resuscitated; which sounds like torture.
