"Buy ware for best price"

Is there a reason that for all of my trading ships, "buy ware for best price" is greyed out?

I have:
Best Buys Locator
Best Selling Price Locator
Carrier Command Software
Docking Computer
Duplex Scanner
Explorer Command Software
Flight Command Software MK1
Flight Command Software MK2
Jumpdrive
Navigational Command Software MK1
Patrol Command Software
Special command Software MK1
Trade Command Software MK2
Trade Command Software MK3
Trading System Extension

... on all of my ships. I need to buy 2000 ore and well I want to use as little money as possible.

What are you trying to do?

Buy Ware for Best Price is intended for factory traders.

If you just want to do a one-off trade for the best (known) price then you can use Remote Best Buy.

I need 2,000 ore for the first GONER mission.

So my Dolphin Tankers, Demented Haulers, Mercury Tankers, Vulture Haulers, Super Vulture Haulers and Caiman Minders cannot can't use the feature?

Will remote bestbuy get me the best price in the sector? Or universe? Edit: Figured out how "Remote Bestbuy" works now.

You need to assign a home base for your traders.

Click on the "Home Base: -" entry in your command console, then click on one of _your_ stations. Note that, if done this way, you can only buy stuff for best price that this station needs or stocks.

BTW the Buy for Best Price commands are slightly broken. They tend to buy from the cheapest source in the nearest sector with the product/resource rather than the cheapest source in range.
