Hotel Review 2022 – Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort, Semporna, Sabah

As the great medieval Muslim traveler who wrote one of the world’s most famous travel logs, the Rihlah, Ibn Battuta quotes.. “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller”

My trip to Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort was just that… Yes, to be honest I had already envisioned a beautiful resort in the middle of the reef, and for once, even my imagination failed to compare to the astounding view that laid before my very eyes from the time I stepped foot on the resort jetty until I left it…

The Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort is a water village which have been built on a sand bar, situated about 15 minutes from Pulau Sipadan….

The sand bar is known as the Ligitan Reefs, a pretty extensive stretch bordering the deep and vast Celebes Seas….

And reminiscent of the Maldives, the Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort accommodation huts or chalets are built over the water with balcony doors that open to reveal truly breathtaking reef views…

Imagine the soothing sound of the water lapping at the strong wooden stilts beneath you…. And schools of fries, coral fishes, sting rays and a turtle lazily swimming past your balcony… And yes.. That is what you will be seeing and experiencing while staying here the Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort….

If you are a diver, this resort is perfectly located to get the most from your diving. World class macro sites are just a giant stride from the dive station…. Sipadan Island is a 15 minute speedboat ride away and Mabul about 10 minutes….

But even if you are not a diver like me… (oh, I wish to be one but somehow I cannot learn to clear my f-ing mask without panicking)… Where was I? Oh like I said, non-divers can also get pretty busy with swimming, snorkeling and admiring the myriads of different fishes , kayaking and soaking up the sun….

There are 3 snorkeling spots for you to choose from but hands down you really have to snorkel in front of the dive station as you will be at awe at the number of fishes and sealife there!!!!

Above the crystal clear salty sea water, it is another world… Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort has been built with some of the best timber, and the structures are erected over water…

If you need a place to getaway from the hundrum of life, and seriously enjoy some serenity and indulge in a truly unique and unforgettable experience, this is it!!!!

It’s all full board at the Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort, with delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks served daily! And yes, the dishes are pretty flavourful and delicious…

Juju and I got our chalet which came with a queen sized bed and a single bed and all the other amenities you would find in a hotel…

The chalet was definitely spacious… And so was the bathroom…

Our balcony got us squealing in delight as there was a bathtub there (talking about bathtub with views) and two sun loungers…

My first 10 minutes outside admiring the amazing view from my balcony had me squealing in excitement as I spotted a turtle swimming past….

Ok.. I have seen sooooo many turtles on aquariums and such but nothing beats seeing a wild turtle swimming past me in the open reef…

We spend the afternoon snorkeling in front of the Dive Centre and was just astounded by the variety and number of fishes there…

In the evening after dinner my friends and I were just so fascinate by the number of Chocolate Chip Starfishes that could be spotted at the jetty area…

And oh, don’t worry about your safety here as there are some Malaysian armed marines/soldiers stationed at the far corners of the resort to keep a lookout for any threats…

Personally for me, this is definitely heaven on earth and the experience is a whole new level above all the other luxury resorts I ever been (including Lexis Hibiscus, Pangkor Laut Resort, Pulau Rawa, St Regis Langkawi etc)…

So yes, before you want to head to Maldives or any such places, you guys should really come stay a few nights here at Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort and experience it all before doing that…
