The best ramen I had in Kyoto! Definitely recommend and would return. We waited outside after writing our name down for lunch for about an hour. It's very small inside so expect a pretty long wait. Also they have a small bathroom inside.

It was well worth the wait! Definitely the best ramen I had in all of Kyoto, and probably even more delicious when you're hungry and have been waiting for an hour! The 2 ladies who were working inside were very efficient and friendly.

This place was hopping and had a long line when we got there. Like most local places, there was very limited seating and people were taking their sweet time so we waited a while. You have to walk ti the podium near the door and put your name down in the clipboard. There wasn't anyone manning the stand but they came out to call you when it was your turn. If you aren't there when they called, they moved onto the next person in line. We were worried they were going to turn people away if we waited past their closing time and they stopped taking people at a certain time but eventually seated everyone who had waited. There was a small heater outside which helped being in the cold but there was only so much retail space around it. There are lots of different types of ramen to choose from and I got the most popular one among the locals. It was super cool getting to see them make the ramen in front of you and the pork belly was absolutely perfect. Cash only. I could do without the gyoza next time but the ramen is a must if you are in Kyoto!

We had ramen at three different places on our family trip to Japan, and honestly all three were spectacular. But I think this was my personal favorite, perhaps because of the chashu pork slices. It's a tiny place, and there was a long wait to get in, so I waited outside in the (December) cold, while my family wandered around shopping. But once we got in, it was WELL worth the wait!! The four of us got various different ramen styles, and all were amazing. I got the combo of ramen with gyoza and a beer. They say that groups over 3 will be separated, but there were able to get all four of us at one table. If I'm ever back in Kyoto, I'm definitely coming back to this place!

This place is absolutely delicious. Everything about it was tasty. Hands down the best ramen I've ever had. I'm from Southern California and thought I found my favorite spot there but this is the best. The wait was about 1.5 hours to get in so we put our name down and went to walk around and get drinks while we waited. We just checked in every so often to see where our name was in the list. Worth the wait!

(If anyone knows me, they know how much I love some ramen)... I went to this shop and OMGGGGoodnesss, this is the best tasting Ramen I have had...... the color, the flavors, the portions... what made it even taste better...the service with it was superb..... I recommend you give them a try..... P.S. get there with enough time the line is long and do not leave without writing name in the list or else you will be disappointed.

Just returned from an incredibly frustrating dining experience. By far the worst dining experience on the trip to Japan.

My family and I arrived at 5:30pm and put our name on the list. We then waited patiently... for 2 hours. This restaurant only seats in batches, so the entire restaurant needs to empty before the next batch is able to sit. Since it depends on how long any group takes to eat, the timing is variable. And everyone needs to be present when your number is called, otherwise you'll be skipped and you have to wait for the next batch.

So we waited for two hours, only to be told they had run out of soup... which was the entire reason we went there. We ended up having to eat waffles from a street stand for our last night in Kyoto.

We had a hard time looking for a place to eat near our hotel. We were tired of walking around in the cold and ramen always sounds good so we gave this a try. It was okay. Not a wow kind of place and I kept looking at some pieces of duck that were round balls. I wasn't sure if it was still duck so didn't eat it. Our tummy's were full and thankful tho. Forgot to take a picture

I spotted that we were close by this spot a little under an hour before opening for lunch, and had to get out there to wait.

We were one of the first ones in line and it was well worth it.
We were let in with first seating, but the food wasn't entirely ready to be served until just before 12:30.
It's run by three women in hawaiian-esque shirts and hats. I LOVE IT.

The chashu is very thick and tender, and as other reviewers have said, are seared just before serving. It's absolutely fantastic!!!
I have my favorite ramen spot in Japan, but this one definitely makes the list.
We both got the yamato no pirikara miso (spicy) but if you usually get the spicy versions of things, don't be afraid this one isn't spicy at all.

Normally i'm a tonkotsu-only snob, but this bowl was equally one of my favorite bowls ever. I also don't like bean sprouts and this bowl is HEAVY on the sprouts, but they were fresh and crispy. They don't have the bean sprout taste like i'm familiar with in the US, so i had absolutely no problem munching them.

You'll not need the extra slices of chashu but you'll want them after you eat.

I have a pretty big appetite but didn't end up needing kaedama here and left fairly full!

Ran into this ramen shop just outside of Nishiki market and was intrigued by the line. A professor once told me if you see a line, get in it. There must be something good at the end. And for the most part, I've heeded that advice. We ended up waiting not anymore than 30 minutes, which seems to be on the shorter side compared to the other reviewers.

I ordered the Shio ramen, the chef's recommendation. It had a milky/creamy broth and really fatty/tender/well-seasoned chashu pork. It was an overall solid bowl of ramen.

At this point in my Japan travels we had eaten a bowl of ramen pretty much each day (gluttonous much?), and honestly though they were all slightly different, I never had one that disappointed me. This was no different.
