Keanu Reeves reveals real story behind his ‘Sad Keanu’ meme

The real story behind Keanu Reeves’ viral “Sad Keanu” meme is far less exciting than what was actually happening in the famous snap.

“I’m just eating a sandwich, man!” Reeves exclaimed when Stephen Colbert held up the photo on Monday’s episode of “The Late Show.”

The “John Wick” star — who, in the picture, looks morose while holding a sandwich on a park bench — added that he was just “thinking” in the 2010 photo, and “had some stuff going on.”

“I was hungry,” he concluded.

The actor, 57, is currently promoting “The Matrix Resurrections,” the fourth installment of the “Matrix” films, set to be released in theaters and on HBO Max Dec. 22.

During his visit to “The Late Show,” Reeves also discussed filming a dangerous stunt for the movie, requiring him and co-star Carrie-Ann Moss to repeatedly jump off the roof of a 46-story building.

“We wanted to do it in the perfect light in the morning so around 19 to 20 times,” he shared with the audience.

“How did Carrie Ann feel about it?” Colbert asked, with Reeves responding, “She speaks a lot about kind of preparing mentally for it and I was doing that too.

“By the time you get there, I mean, my heart rate was a little raised, but then after the first time you can’t think of the fear. You have to deal with it, absorb it, and then just be there and do … and that’s what we did.”
