Download the DirectX tool from the microsoft site.
Run it, and it will fix things.
Yes, You have DirectX and it works correctly, but there's something missing that LotRO needs.

I know for sure that I have it installed, I just ran it. Also, I tried re-installing the game to no effect.

I had this same issue after downloading the game for the first time today. I simply changed the 'Screen Mode' setting to 'Full Screen (Windowed)' and the game no longer crashes.

**Edit: I discovered that the game client was using integrated gpu. I had to manually prioritize my dedicated gpu in the nvidia control panel program settings

I've been searching for over a week for an answer as to why my game wasn't working, tried literary everything recommended, but doing these changes in Nvidia fixed it for me. Thank you so much.

This is getting ridiculous how often this is becoming a problem for me.

Just wanted to pop in here and say thank you. had to fix the setting in nvidia and then launch the game in 32 bit, change to full screen (windowed) and then launch in 64 bit and it finally worked. Took me hours to find someone who finally had the right solution, so thanks!

Hey all, I recently got a new computer ( windows 11) and on my old one I had been playing with the direct x 9 with graphics I tolerate it. Unfortionaly I had to get a new computer and the same settings with directx 9 is bothering me. This computer has Direct x 12 but the LOTRO system only registers directx9 and if i change my graphics even to high i get kicked out of the game.

I have tried to follow the advise on the forms and looking for restarting to my graphic Nvidia card or trying to find my preference file I cannot find it. I cannot download any other version of direct x because it registers my current one and will not install the older version. I not sure what to do? Do you know of a video that could walk me through the steps to fix this? Thanks.

Ok I do have directx 12, How do I enable it to run direct x 11 compatibility for the game? Right now I am running at direct x 9 on the game( only option to pick in graphics) Should I uninstall the game and reinstall and hope the prompt before the game will allow me to pick direct x 11 compatibility? Is there some things I need to delete in the folders? thanks

I repeat. open a command window. run dxdiag. wait for it to finish. click on next page. you should be under the Display tab. look at second column Drivers. feature levels will tell you which dx you have installed.

the line that says feature levels. dx12 comes with windows 11.
is dx11 already installed? if not, you have to install it. if yours says only 12 and 9, that is why only dx9 runs

my game options are dx11, dx10, dx9 probably because I have all 3 installed.
