we decided to eat chanko nabe. This is a selection of cut meat, vegetables and fish that you cook yourself in an iron pot (nabe) over a gas flame. There are many kinds of nabe but chanko nabe is the kind sumo wrestlers eat to get big and strong. You can put anything in chanko nabe. A quick check on the smart phone found a recommended nabe restaurant nearby with 4.5 stars out of 5. It was up a quiet stairway in Namba. Inside it was warm and cozy and decorated in traditional Japanese style with a counter and low tables. There were many sumo photos and memorabilia on the walls.The secret to good nabe is the soup or stock you boil the ingredients in. This stick was the restaurants secret recipe but contained suppon (terrapin). It was really tasty. The ingredients included shellfish, fish, chicken, tofu and vegetables. It was really delicious and certainly worth 4.5 stars out of five and more. If you want to have their special crab nabe, you need to order ahead when you make a reservation.
