TVLine Items: Y&R Taps Guiding Light Vet, Hell or High Water Series and More
The Young and the Restless has found its new Ashland Locke: Guiding Light vet Robert Newman will take over the role from Richard Burgi, who announced his exit from the CBS soap just days ago, Soap Opera Digest reports.
Newman, who played Josh Lewis on Guiding Light on-and-off from 1981-2009, will make his Y&R debut in February.
In announcing his departure, Burgi — who had joined the soap in March 2021 — said in an Instagram video, “I want to say thank you to all of you wonderful folks, who have been so kind and generous and supportive with your words, and I have such gratitude for the support. …. I’ve had a great year on Y&R, and just thoroughly enjoyed the great cast and crew.” (Update: Get details on why Y&R dropped Burgi.)

In the project, “a ruthless oil tycoon attempts to plunder a West Texas ranching community, while two local brothers dodge a zealous Texas Ranger and fight to keep what’s theirs, one bank robbery at a time, come hell or high water.”
* The CW’s Legacies will now resume Season 4 on Thursday, Feb. 24. (Its midseason premiere was previously scheduled for Jan. 27.)
* The View vet Star Jones will serve as the new judge of Divorce Court, beginning this September.
* black-ish will welcome the following guest stars during its final season, ABC has announced: Andrew Bachelor (KingBach), Kent Bazemore, Simone Biles, Jeanie Buss, Daveed Diggs, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Vivica A. Fox, Montrezl Harrell, Dwight Howard, Magic Johnson, DeAndre Jordan, Malik Monk, Isaiah Mustafa, Kendrick Nunn, Rajon Rondo, Reid Scott and Stephen A. Smith, among others.
* ABC has given a pilot order to Josep, a single-cam comedy starring comedian Jo Koy as a recently divorced Filipino American nurse attempting to navigate dating, fatherhood and a very Filipino mother who loves to “help.”
* Paramount+’s The Godfather making-of limited series The Offer will premiere Thursday, April 28 with its first three episodes.

Grew up on GL and loved Josh and Reva. Maybe Kim Zimmerman can join as Ash’s ex?
I hope not! I love him, but i have read a lot of stuff about Kim Zimmerman. If even a 10th of it is true, I would prefer she stay off any airwaves.
Reva Shane was on young and the restless before I forgot the character she played but I would love for Joshua and Reva to be together again ALWAYS BUD!!
I watched both GL and Y&R for many years and was surprised to read this, but both were on the air before i was born so I figured it was very possible. I don’t see Y&R listed among Kim Zimmer’s credits on IMDB though. The other daytime soaps she was on were Santa Barbara and One Life to Live.

Robert Newman! Yes!! Never would have thought of it and honestly have never bought RB as a good guy. Sorry… All of a sudden SO excited for the new reiteration of this couple! Reva, KZ is a bit hystironic and fine… but Josh was a character I just loved as is, due to RM as an amazing character actor, period. A recast didn’t seem to be the YR choice but YR sure made some yummy lemonade with those lemons! How the remaining soaps haven’t picked up more of these lost jewels is beyond me.
Honestly beginning to wonder if they ditched RB for RM… I would have… RB is best as a slimy villan or cop type character. Ashland isn’t that. It is best he move on. But grateful for the character.

I think the character Ashland will prove to be a villain . He will take over everything Victor Newman owns. Josh will be a perfect foe forge great Victor Newman!
Does anyone know why Richard Burgi left Young and Restless? He was doing a good job.
He mistakenly violated the shows Covid policy. He stayed insolation for 5 days (per the CDC guidelines) after testing positive for Covid on the east coast while visiting family, Unfortunately the shows policy is 10 days.

What is wrong with the writers of the Young and Restless
to replace Burgi as Ashland? He was perfect. What’s their excuse this time? Replacing Chance has been a bomb as well as that story line.
For whatever reason Burgi is going and that is a bummer. I expected Chance to return in a stronger fashion. He is such a capable agent and I expect PTSD but he is written now as boring and wimpy. Give me some passion and life in the portrayal, please.

Agree completely about Chance. Not to take away anything from Conner Floyd, he looks great and is a fine actor but no one can replace Donny Boaz as Chance. He IS Chance

YES…love them together! Kim Zimmer is the best! She could bring Reva Shane’s personality into a character and give that show some much need new life! I could see a relative of Phyllis, maybe?
Yeah!! I wondered what they were doing with the character. It would be odd to have them say treatment was working then he died. So glad Robert will be the new Ashland. Loved him on Guiding Light.
I like him from GL days. I don’t watch Soaps anymore but sure wish he would be in prime time.
Someone suggested this and I think maybe it’s the case, what if Robert’s not actually replacing Richard, but will be playing the real Ashland Locke? We know the current Ashland is a fake and the real Ashland Locke supposedly died in a car fire, but what if he didn’t? What if he was rescued and so badly burned that he had to get plastic surgery all over his body and he’s spent the last several years plotting his revenge against the “best friend” that stole his identity and left him to die? It’s possible sites are assuming he’s a recast because he’s playing Ashland Locke, but he’s actual playing the real Ashland and the fake Ashland will be leaving as everyone originally thought. If not, he looks way too old to be paired with Victoria.

Just checked IMDB and Burgi and Newman were born in the same year. Newman was very good on GL so I could see it working. I think the only way a revenge SL like you’re suggesting might work is 1) if the audience cared enough about the “Ashland Locke” they already know and 2) if Burgi was staying on to play the target of the revenge. We already know Burgi is gone, and from my mom’s reactions to Y&R these days, she finds the show very boring and dislikes the Ashland character in particular. So I would say they’d be 0 for 2 if they were intending to go that route.
So glad he’s going to be coming to YnR. Loved him on Guiding Light. And the fact he he as the same name as my #1 son is a bonus!!

I’m tired of Y&R recasting major roles. First it was Chance, now it’s Ashland. The new Chance is horrible and many fans are used to Richard as Ashland. Don’t they pay their actors well or what is the problem?

Miss Guiding Light still o this day. Great Actin and well written fast moving story line. If YR wanted to have some fun, bnring in Ron Raines (Alan Spaulding) , Jerry ver Dorn (Rodd Marler) as new D.A. and Justin Deas (Buzz Cooper) to help run Crimson Lights (place has no customers these days)
