Freeform is telling Siren to sleep with the fishes, cancelling the mermaid drama after three seasons, TVLine has confirmed.
Across Season 3’s 10-episode run, Siren averaged a 0.11 demo rating and 410,000 total viewers (in Live+Same day numbers), down 30 and 15 percent from Season 2. Out of the seven series currently on Freeform’s roster, it ranks second in the demo (trailing only grown-ish) and No. 1 in total audience.
Siren‘s third season finale — which will now serve as its series finale — aired on May 28, delivering the long-awaited final showdown between mermaids Ryn and Tia. Though good ultimately triumphed over evil, the episode didn’t exactly wrap up Ryn’s story in a neat little bow. Sure, her daughter is safe, but Ben’s whereabouts are still unknown. The mermaid drama stars/starred Alex Roe as Ben Pownall, Eline Powell as Ryn Fisher, Fola Evans-Akingbola as Maddie Bishop, Ian Verdun as Xander McClure and Rena Owen as Helen Hawkins.
News of Siren‘s cancellation comes shortly after Freeform ordered additional seasons of witch drama Motherland: Fort Salem and quirky comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay. The network’s Party of Five reboot, meanwhile, was cancelled after just one season in April.
In other recent Freeform news, the network announced that new episodes of Good Trouble and grown-ish — which were both supposed to air this summer — are being held until 2021.

Color not shocked. Netflix and Freeform should just be called “3&Done”
Freeform should just fold into Hulu, the cable business does not suit the network, most of their shows end on cliffhangers and it’s very unsettling…their audience is also on streaming, why are they searching for them on basic cable still??!? Everyone is tired in investing their hours and hearts into these stories and characters that go nowhere, it’s very upsetting to an audience standpoint, we’re unable to get closure.
They need to produce TV movies as wrap ups (and more preferably as continuations, i.e. Colombo). The fans deserve that. Try gofund something or other. I have a list of over 50 series that broke my heart with no wrap up, and I’m ready to donate to get that continuation. Hear that, suits?

Lengthy comment, bare with me, pretty pease. I watched season 3 after hearing that the show has been canceled. So I was butt hurt, obviously, about the cancellation. After watching the season 3 finale, it *kinda* made sense why network went ahead and pulled plug on it as season 3 finale could potentially serve as series finale.
Having said that, whenever a fan favorite series ends it feels like a breakup. It feels especially messy when it gets cancelled. We need closure.
If it is not possible to pickup the show for an entire season, do what NBC did with Timeless series. Release an hour long episode or a two-part finale to wrap the characters’ arcs giving them a happy ending and fans peace of mind by pulling us off the cliffhangers.
Had there been a season 4, Ben would’ve been brought back to life. Please don’t go breaking Ryn’s and fans’ hearts.

YES!! Hulu could totally pick this up and make sure it has a adequate ending. So unprofessional for them to only count network views instead of streams all together. This isn’t the first time freeform has cancelled a VERY good show for no good reason. Wish they would go back to being ABC maybe then we would get a full length series.

This is not always the case with freeform was Shadowhunters they cut it even though it was a big hit and now we have a problem with this one the only reason I was giving free form any chance at all with siren now I don’t seem to have any reason to stick around nothing else interests me goodbye freeform

Ridiculous, so you say don’t watch the shows and they won’t get cancelled? Are you high, if no one watches them they won’t make it past the pilot. Not watching them is not really even sensible. The best answer is watch them and give the network a reason to make a 2 hour movie to end the series properly. I think that is the answer we all can live with.
I have watched siren from the beginning on hulu and was looking forward to a new season. So many people these days stream TV and do not have cable. You should take that into consideration.
I finally got Hulu last week and siren was the first show I started when I got it. I just finished it and am crying because it cannot end like this ! They need to come back for a fourth season !!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WITH BEN AND ELAINE AND MADDIE AND ROBB!! ESPECIALLY RYN AND HOPE!!!

Siren’s latest season “averaged a 0.11 demo rating and 410,000 total viewers.” That’s low enough that #1 is pretty meaningless. The difference between first and last is likely negligible and special effects heavy Siren is more expensive.
I love Motherland, but I hope that writers end future seasons with a sense of closure. S3, should it get that far, should be written as a de facto series finale.
It’s crazy that these fairly high cost shows get less viewers than a daily/weekly upload by one of the 1000s of YouTubers.
So why get rid of the #1 most watched show..? 410,000 views.. are they counting the people that stream the show online? Freeform needs to question themselves and ask why they’re adding sequels to shows that fall under Siren.
As a “new” series that is being followed on TV, that may true. As a series that is being watched on Hulu, in covid times of not going out, it will get a lot more watches. I just discovered it a few weeks ago and am horribly disappointed that it isn’t resolved with the cancellation. Maybe Freeform won’t finish it, but Hulu should! I typically don’t go after the network, because I get the nature of the business. Aside from Pretty Little Liars, every show Freeform has put out, that I invested in(which dates back to its ABC Family day) has been cancelled. Switched at Birth is argumentative, but whatever is going at Freeform, they have got to allow their shows to build an audience and should they decide to end it, allow the showrunners to at least develop a send-off that allows closure. Siren was one of their better ones and this is what we get?! Sigh, and yet, I’ll be back with their next concept that grabs my attention and investment.

The problem with freeform has always been the crappy writing and planning, that’s why all the good shows get cancelled after 1-3 seasons right after a cliff hanger. It’s total bs. You know how hard it is to find anything about mermaids that has any substance??? I loved this show because it looked at mermaids from an evolutionary standpoint, they’re predators not just pretty ladies swimming around falling in love with humans. Wrap up the side arc about Ben turning into some kind of creature of the deep and end it with Ben, Ryn, and Hope together as a happy, aquatic family. I’d be happy with that tbh. But no, asking freeform to finish anything is a waste of breath.

Motherland: Fort Salem was already renewed for a S2 in May, and the filming schedule for that was just released a couple of days ago.

So true! This was the only thing I watched on Freeform. Is Ben going to make it? Since he’s turning into a merman I have so many questions that need answers. I wanted to see Hope grow up.

Ben is dead. He saved ryn but turned back into a total human in the middle of it. I knew when I saw that last episode that it was over. I mean think about it, Maddie leaving, Ben not coming back, and the mermaid on the rock scene was the perfect ending.

Well this sucks! I don’t watch any of the other freeform shows. Siren was the only show I turned on the network to watch, so now I guess it won’t be on my TV anymore. It was the only decent show since they canceled Baby Daddy. So good Job freeform… You suck!
Wow! I had a feeling that SIREN would get cancelled after the 3rd season be had of how the show ended with the mermaid fight, even though SIREN was actually one of the better scripted dramas that Freeform has aired in a while. Clearly, the powers that be at Freeform are ignorant because they cancel decent shows after a few seasons without giving the shows a proper chance to secure a good audience. If GOOD TROUBLE gets cancelled, too, then I may be done for good with watching Freeform. As of now, GOOD TROUBLE is the only decent show left on the network that I even bother to watch.

I just don’t understand Freeform at all. it was one of their highest rated shows and such a good watch. Why do shows like Good Trouble keeps getting renewed? It’s last episode only getting a 0.03. Is it just because it’s the Fosters spin off? They should just make shows for Hulu now imo, may actually get proper endings that way.
I like the vast majority of Freeform’s output, but I just couldn’t get into this one; gave up on it after four, maybe five, episodes.
