Michael Dell is an American entrepreneur and business magnate known for founding Dell Technologies, one of the world's largest technology infrastructure companies. Here is a brief overview of Michael Dell's career story:

Michael Saul Dell was born on February 23, 1965, in Houston, Texas. From a young age, he displayed an interest and aptitude for technology, often disassembling and reassembling electronic devices. He began his entrepreneurial journey as a teenager when he started selling newspaper subscriptions.

In 1984, while still a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, Dell founded his first company, which he initially called "PC's Limited." He saw an opportunity to offer customized personal computers directly to customers, bypassing the traditional retail channels. His vision was to build computers to the specific needs of each customer, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Dell initially operated the business from his dormitory room, assembling computers using off-the-shelf components. The company quickly gained traction, and Dell dropped out of college at age 19 to focus on his business full-time. In 1985, he officially changed the company name to Dell Computer Corporation.

Through innovative marketing strategies, such as selling directly to consumers and offering built-to-order computers, Dell Computer Corporation experienced rapid growth. The company went public in 1988, becoming the youngest-ever CEO to lead a company listed on the Fortune 500.

Over the years, Dell expanded the company's product offerings beyond personal computers to include servers, storage devices, and other technology solutions. Dell's emphasis on customer-centric business models, efficient supply chain management, and direct sales approach helped the company establish a strong presence in the industry.

In 2004, Michael Dell stepped down as CEO but remained as the company's chairman. However, he returned as CEO in 2007 when Dell faced significant challenges and declining market share. Under his leadership, the company underwent a transformation, diversifying its offerings and focusing on enterprise solutions and services.

In 2013, Dell announced a plan to take the company private in a landmark deal worth approximately $24.9 billion, which was one of the largest privatization deals in history. The move allowed Dell to restructure the company away from the scrutiny of public markets and focus on long-term strategies.

In 2016, Dell merged with EMC Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise data storage, to form Dell Technologies. The merger created a technology powerhouse with a broad portfolio of solutions ranging from personal computers to cloud computing and cybersecurity.

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Michael Dell continues to serve as the chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, guiding the company's strategic direction and overseeing its operations.

Throughout his career, Michael Dell has been recognized for his contributions to the technology industry and his entrepreneurial success. He has received numerous accolades and awards, including being listed in Forbes' list of billionaires and Fortune's World's 50 Greatest Leaders.

Please note that the information provided here is based on the knowledge available up until September 2021, and there may have been developments in Michael Dell's career since then.
