Odilon Redon (1840-1916), by his own name Bertrand-Jean Redon, was a French painter, a representative of Symbolism and Decadence in the visual arts. Redon's work cannot be classified in any of the movements of contemporary painting, whether it was Realism, Classicism, the Nabis movement, the Barbizon School or Impressionism. It represents a solitaire that cannot be clearly placed in a category.
