収録されている短編4作品。どれも沖縄を舞台に、ぬるりとした手触り感のある作品。
表題の『群蝶の木』は、深沢潮『翡翠色の海へうたう』と読むとより深くイメージの理解がすすむのではないかと思う。

〈表題作について〉
　自らの純粋な想いに従い生きるからこそ、他人の常識では「醜い」と判断される者。その純粋さを、美しく切なく描いた物語。
　「魂」とか呼ばれる世界観が、亜熱帯の自然の中に溶かし込まれて表現され、これまた大変美しい。でも逆に言うと、亜熱帯の自然（例えば、珊瑚とか）に関してちょっとはビジュアルの予備知識がないと、読みながらビジュアルをイメージするのが難しいかもしれない。写真などを見て、事前に予習をするのがきっとベターです。読み終わった後に調べてもいいですけど。
　沖縄戦においてもたらされた大きな悲しみを、純粋で一途な思いが浄化してしまうような、そんな美しい物語です。
