4 RAID Modes for your choice:

  • RAID 0: Merge all HDD's capacity in the HDD enclosure and upgrade it's performance (reading and writting speed).
  • RAID 1: Two HDD's in the HDD enclosure can backup each other, cannot upgrade it's performance(reading and writing speed), and it can support self restoration function (RAID 0 modes cannot support this function), which makes files can be restored when mistaks and faults occur.
  • LARGE: Merge all HDD's capacity in the HDD enclosure to make it easy to manage but can not upgrade it's performance.
  • Normal: means normal state, all HDDs in the HDD enclosure work independently without forming any RAID modes.

Note:

  1. RAID mode needs 2 or more HDDs
  2. Please backup all files before setting or changing RAID mode
  3. Please don't move HDD when it's in RAID mode.
  4. Please in Normal mode before setting or changing RAID mode
  5. If you set other raid modes for the second time, you need to switch to normal mode before you can set up other raid modes. Otherwise, the product will be regarded as invalid to switch raid modes.
  6. After setting the RAID mode to be used, press and hold the RESET button, turn off the power switch and then turn it on. release the RESET button, and the setting is successful to initialize the disk.

    Very well thought out. Very nice materials and construction. It is fast. Use it for Thuberbolt 4 port connectivity, which is way faster than the 2 ea. RAID-0 HDD's that are in it. They top out at about 410 MB/sec. read speed, which is only a fraction of the 10Gbps that its interface sports. Aluminum for cooling, adjustable cooling fans, and auto-sleep when not in use. All plusses.

    What I like is that it works and it is easy to set up. Materials are mediocre. The inside is a cheap feeling plastic. An interesting aspect is that the cooling fan is manually controlled--I not sure that is good, unless you just run it full time. I had an another enclosure that was a little less expensive and made far better will all metal parts. Problem is it did not work and I was not able to get it repaired or replaced.

    Two for two.

    I ordered one of these dual-bay enclosures. It arrived without the necessary power supply. Amazon sent a replacement and the second unit also arrived without the power supply. The unit is not self-powered and requires a 12v DC 1.5A power supply (about $5 on Amazon).

    Other than being unable to power the unit when it arrives, the device is actually nice looking, decently constructed, and full featured.

    The drive carrier is plastic and one or two drives of any capacity slide in and are then screwed in. The enclosure itself is extruded aluminum with a beveled edge that fastens using three provided screws to the drive carrier.

    The unit features a fan with a manual off/low/high speed switch. The fan is silent. RAID modes are 0 (stripe), 1 (mirror), JBOD, and "normal," which exposes each disk separately. There are LED indicators on the top of the unit for disk activity and on the back of the unit for RAID model selected (via DIP switches). There is a legend printed on the back of the unit showing the four possible switch positions and what they do.

    Nice enclosure. Disappointing delivery. Of course, Amazon came through in the end.

    I was looking for a two bay external raid enclosure for backups. The enclosure is a simple, sleek design essentially a metal encasing you can insert two 3.5 drives. The enclosure also comes with the screws and two different screw drivers for installing and setting up the enclosure. (Note the enclosure is not intended to be hot-swappable

    On the back of the enclosure is the “on” switch (it would have been more convenient if the on switch was on the front), fan control, raid rest button, raid setting dip switches and blue light indicators showing what raid level is set. Setting the raid was really easy, I just followed the instruction on the website

    1)Turn on the Power 2) Set the raid level on the dip switches, 2)Hold the RESET button, 3) Turn off the power switch and then turn it on, 4) Wait until blue raid indicator lights up indicating raid level is set

    I didn’t get a chance to test it out, but the case also advertises 3.2 Gen 2 speeds (10 Gbps). Technically an SSD only needs 5Ggps but I prefer a USB connection that has more capacity than required. On CrystalDiskmark I am getting around 207/205 MBS r/w, which is what I was expecting for a 7200 Toshiba N300 drive.

    I am very happy with this case for the price, it works perfect for backups. There are a couple of different retailers who sell this case on both on amazon and china direct, so watch out for sales.

    I really wanted to use this as a dock for my two full HDDs (something that could support up to 24 TB) so I loaded them in and one wasn’t showing up. Troubleshooting didn’t help (I was using Normal mode, not RAID) so I had to bite the bullet and reformat them into a Large container. I had most of it already backed up so I was okay but it was a long process, only because I’m not getting USB 3.1 speeds out of this thing (not even using Thunderbolt). Now I’m no expert on computing and hardware but I’m pretty sure this product should be working much better than advertised.
