The Canton Art Association will commence its fall season and feature award-winning pastel artist Laurinda O’Connor at its meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Community Room at Canton Public Library, 786 Washington St.

O’Connor, who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Boston University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UMass Amherst, will demonstrate how she approaches her paintings. She has held classes for both adults and children at the South Shore Art Center, Milton Art Center, St. Mary of the Hills School and workshops at the North River Arts and Pastel Painters of Cape Cod.

“As a pastel artist, I strive to let simplified strokes of color and line create a path into a scene and moment in time, “ O’Connor said. “I push myself to capture the sense I feel from the landscape as well as to create the up-close excitement of color, texture, and expression on the surface of my paper.”

Attendance is free, and light refreshments will be served.
