Hate *

It's been like 13 years since I tried to play this game, and I still sometimes think back on how much I hated it. I probably sunk 20+ hours into it, too. The Tales series is my favorite, and this is the one Tales game that I've left unfinished. I have no intention of going back.

SHUT UP.

So first impressions of this one are uhhhhh mixed? The jump back to a 2d battle is interesting, but doing it with speedier better models is making it still fun. Some small QOL features like frequent warps, and markers to show treasure offshoots in dungeons are cool. But then other QOL features that were there since Tales of Phantasia, like changing equipment directly from the shop, or an optimal equipment shortcut are just missing. The biggest thing in the negative column though is the character designs. Especially coming off of Tales of Symphonia they are just incredibly busy and overly complex. I mean just look at how many different random anti-symmetrical tidbits we can mash onto this guy. enter image description here
