      Critics Consensus

Anatomy of a Scandal has the bones of a good David E. Kelley potboiler but lacks the connective tissue to really work, although the starry cast provides an intrigue all its own.

James Jackson Times (UK) A pit of dark secrets slowly emerges in what’s best described as a hate-watch. Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Rachel Cooke New Statesman Only one person in this fiasco is any good: the ever-brilliant Joshua McGuire, as Chris Clarke, a Downing Street communications chief. Jun 6, 2022 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail In Anatomy of a Scandal, there is the matter of what constitutes consent and what is rape. But the muddled storytelling leaves the victim behind. Apr 27, 2022 Full Review Pallavi Keswani The Hindu Based on Sarah Vaughn’s novel, the show spends time on issues rarely addressed on television. However, it falls short of conveying these in a sensitive manner. Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com The coincidences in the plot are too good to be true, but the acting of all involved raises the level of enjoyment. Rated: 6/10 Jun 16, 2022 Full Review Paloma Rando El Pais (Spain) The only thing shocking about Anatomy of a Scandal is that David E. Kelley, creator of series like Picket Fences, Ally McBeal and The Lawyer, hasn't had a hit since the first season of Big Little Lies. Wolf G The negative reviews on here are from people who felt personally attacked by the messages from this show. The series was great, perfect amount of episodes, amazing acting and absolutely stunning editing. The story spoke a lot of about the world we live in today and was unafraid to speak the truth. 100% recommended watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Rodriguez F The confused left wing fantasy storyline is literally paint by numbers. It is however very well acted, but even this great cast cannot save the poor source material. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review Joan M I see many reviews that are negative here which confuses me as I think this is a very well done series. It feels like a stage play. I found the acting dynamic. The cinematography superb. The story suspenseful. And the psychology behind the way a privileged boy/man who is raised/condoned to believe lying and cheating is ok and a total disregard for women was important, especially today, to have a spotlight on. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Alaina W I truly feel as though I have wasted my time. The camera work is beautiful and makes up for the lack of depth there. Just meh...you should spend your time watching something more worthwhile. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/19/23 Full Review Krishna Y It was a good serial...gripping, well made, good acting, intricate moral issues but the end was senseless... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review K F Unfortunately this British show seems to fall into the growing category of "British but trying to Americanise for American audiences resulting in an odd and underwhelming hybrid." Brits do these kinds of stories really, really well, they should just do it as they would. Instead it is overacted, over-dramatic, over-polished, superficial, a cheesy soap opera-like score, and the everything is obvious, predictable and devoid of nuance. Oh, and the trixy camera work is silly. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
