KITTERY — Haley Art Gallery's walls are adorned with most recent works of master pastelist, Gail Sauter of Kittery in the "Passages — of Time and Places" exhibit.

The exhibit will remain on view until Dec. 6. Gallery hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, or by appointment.

Sauter has worked professionally in oils and pastels since the early 70s and has been awarded the honorary distinctions of Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America, and full Artist status by the Copley Society of Boston.

She holds fellowship residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Vermont Studio Colony, the Atlin Art Center, British Columbia, and I Park in Connecticut. She is listed in Who's Who in American Art and her work has been published in two books, "The Best of Pastel 2" and "L'Art du Pastel." Her paintings have been exhibited across U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Italy, France, and Russia.

Sauter holds her bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Oklahoma and has lived in different cultures and in many parts of the United States, which has given her an insight into the universality of people around the world. As an avid traveler today, she paints on location and feels it is important that we reach out and connect with one another and share our sameness while celebrating our differences.

"I want to capture and hold a unique and fleeting moment in time. To make it real so that anyone can relate to it and envision themselves being a part of it. It is in the experience of sharing such moments that we can discover something for ourselves. That is what art is all about in my book," she said.
