Description
How can I restart SNMP from the command line interface on Aventail units?
Resolution
Feature/Application: You can remotely access your Aventail unit using SSH and stop, start or restart your snmp service.
- To restart snmp from the command line interface use command:
/etc/init.d/snmpd restart
- The snmpd command can also be used with the stop, start, reload and forced-reload options. For example:
/etc/init.d/snmpd stop
- The snmpwalk command is another useful to configure snmp or to retrieve information from the command line.
The command “snmpwalk –v1 localhost –c public 1.3.6.1.1.4.12021.2” will check the status of selected services on the Aventail. In the example the AMC, apache2 and policy server are all running as shown below.
- If the services were not running, it would show an error as shown below:
- If you are unable to login to the Aventail with SSH, login to the Aventail AMC and go to the Services page. Under SSH click the configure button.
- Make sure SSH is enabled on the Aventail. Also make sure the IP address you are connecting SSH from is in the Remote hosts; 0.0.0.0 as shown in the example is any host. Otherwise, SSH will fail.
See Also: With a SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) tool such as SonicWall GMS Net Monitor, Hewlett-Packard OpenView, or IBM Tivoli—you can monitor the Aventail appliance as an SNMP agent. The appliance currently supports SNMP versions 1 and 2c; however, snmp version 3 will be supported in firmware 10.6.0 and higher. For information on configuring Snmp on the Aventail, see page 214 of the Aventail 10.5.3 Installation and Administration guide.
