Solar Eclipse Event at STU

April 8, 2024
Solar Eclipse Event at STU

3:00 PM - 8:00 PM
STU Campus

On April 8, for the first time in New Brunswick in over 1,000 years, Fredericton will be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse.

Celebrate this historic event on campus safely with fun games, activities, music, and food. You do not want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!  Free glow sticks and eclipse glasses will be provided. (Limited Supply).

This event is co-organized by STU Student Services and the St. Thomas University Student's Union.

Safety Precautions

The Department of Health is urging New Brunswickers to take precautions to protect their eyes during the eclipse. Looking directly at the sun during this time can cause permanent eye damage.

While many events around the province, including one on the STU campus, are planned to mark this rare occasion, people are strongly advised to use certified solar eclipse glasses in accordance with ISO 12312-2:2015 and follow the directions that come with this special eyewear.

Anyone not able to acquire certified eclipse glasses must avoid looking at the sun or remain inside.
