Country group Lady A, formerly Lady Antebellum, will play the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Aug. 28, according to Birmingham-based Red Mountain Entertainment. Carly Pearce and Niko Moon will open the 7 p.m. show.

In 2006, Hillary Scott, lead and background vocals, Charles Kelley, guitar, and lead and background vocals, and Dave Haywood, guitar, piano, mandolin and background vocals, formed Lady Antebellum out of Nashville.

They took the name from a photo shoot in which the trio posed in period costumes outside antebellum — pre-Civil War South — homes. They shortened the name in 2020, in light of Black Lives Matter protests, to cut any perceived connections to the era of slavery, inadvertently creating a controversy with a Black Seattle-based musician who'd been using Lady A for more than three decades. The matter is still in litigation.

They broke out as guest vocalists on Jim Brickman's 2007 single "Never Alone," then signed as a group to Capitol Nashville, for whom they cut seven studio discs. Their 2019 "Ocean," the last recording under the old name, was released as the band's first for BMLG Records. The label released a "deluxe edition" in November 2020 under the band's new name.

Three of their studio albums have sold platinum or better, moving more than 10 million discs in the U.S., with 16 singles charting, including nine No. 1s. Among their hits are "Need You Now," "Just a Kiss," "I Run To You," "American Honey," "Our Kind of Love," "We Owned the Night," "Dancin' Away with My Heart," "Downtown," "Bartender," "What If I Never Get Over You" and "Champagne Night."

Carly Pearce

Pearce has been singing professionally since her teens, but gained wide recognition for her 2017 single "Every Little Thing." From its satellite radio rotation, she landed a contract with Big Machine Records, and the song she wrote went to No. 1 on the country charts. Her debut disc came out that year, named for the single. She followed that with the 2020 "Carly Pearce," from which came her second No. 1, "I Hope You're Happy Now," sung with Lee Brice.

Niko Moon

Moon first broke in co-writing songs for the Zac Brown Band, and co-producing that group's albums "Jekyll and Hyde" and "Welcome Home." He's also written for Rascal Flatts, worked with Colt Ford, and formed group Sir Rosevelt with Brown and Ben Simonetti. Moon signed a solo contract with Sony Music Nashville in 2019. In 2020, he released an EP, "Good Time," whose title song went to No. 1 on country charts.
