Kate Middleton and Prince William got to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in person for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The royal couple traveled to Aldershot on Thursday, about 40 miles southwest of London, to take part in the town's annual parade alongside the Irish Guards. At the event, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge handed out shamrock boutonnieres and joined in the guards's festivities at their barracks. William attended dressed in uniform for his honorary position as Colonel of the Irish Guards and saluted the regiment's mascot, an Irish wolfhound named Turlough Mor, also known as Seamus. Kate was also dressed for the occasion in a deep green coat dress by designer Laura Green with matching heels and pillbox hat. She also gave Seamus a sprig of shamrock and a pat on the head.

Following the holiday parade, the pair sat for the traditional photograph alongside all of the barrack's soldiers and then kept the celebration going at the Junior Ranks dining hall where they met with some of the soldiers and their families and were toasted by the Senior Guardsman of the 1st Battalion. Earlier that day, the royals also tweeted their well-wishes for the holiday, writing, “Happy #StPatricksDay wherever in the world you’re celebrating today!”

Earlier this week, William's father Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, got a head start on the revelry with a visit to the Irish Center in London where the Prince of Wales took a big sip from a glass of Guinness. Camilla has to subtly inform her husband that the swig had gotten froth all over his nose, prompting Charles to burst out in laughter.
