A baby boy has died after being mauled to death by his family's two pet dogs.

The two-month-old boy was attacked by a Labrador mix and a Giant Schnauzer in Houston, Texas on Saturday.

The baby was in his bassinet when the family pets attacked at around 3pm, according to reports.

The two-month-old boy was attacked by his family's Labrador mix and a Giant Schnauzer at their home in Houston, Texas on Saturday

His parents had just stepped away from the bassinet when the tragedy unfolded.

The boy was mauled around his torso.

His parents called 911 but died from his injuries, ABC13 reports.

The dogs, both named Jack, were surrendered on Sunday by their owners to BARC, the city's animal control agency.

The pets were due to be euthanized on Monday.

The dogs were confiscated and quarantined immediately after the shock attack. Their owners agreed to turn them over to Houston authorities on Sunday

After the two dogs are destroyed they will then be sent to a city lab to be tested for rabies to see if that can explain the attack

Authorities say it is not clear what sparked the attack.

Neighbor Maria Medina told the network: 'I just broke down when I heard about the baby, I didn't expect that. It was, I have no words for it, it was really bad.'

Houston police are investigating the baby's death.
